Documentary

As a filmmaker, the most important part of our work is being able to tell a great story.

Even with the best camera, cinema-grade lenses, and a professional editing suite, in the end, none of it matters if your story doesn’t have meaning.

And that’s what I love the most.

An Island of Your Own

Davis Island wasn’t always an island. In the 1900s, a hurricane cut a path through a peninsula that juts out into Core Sound, separating a stately home at its tip from the mainland. Years later, a man achieved his childhood dream of living in that home.

What he found was peace and beauty, and a love story that came to him, in an isolated place, with an unexpected knock on his door.

The Art of Light

There’s something about the way Raleigh glows at night. And Durham too. When the sun set, there seemed to be a new light leading my way around town. And I thought, “it’s these neon signs, they’re amazing.” They were creating an atmosphere that’s exciting and electric, but also, familiar.

But who was making them?

And that’s what led me to Glas, where the creation of neon signs is part art, part science. Since 1986, Raleigh’s Nate Shaeffer has been bending glass to bring its special light to life.

Watch him make our state glow, literally.

We Live Here

Still in development.

We Live here is a television pilot currently in development. Working with Jerfilm, PBS-NC and Our State magazine, our goal was to create a television series that focused on the following question: What does it mean to be at home?

But more than that, we wanted to share stories that focus on why we live where we live, how our homes are the physical embodiment of our life’s story, and how our communities are affected by those stories as well.
